Brief History
We strongly support energy sources that are based on the utilization of natural renewable energy resources, while highlighting as a necessary condition the criteria of the environmental protection and of the economic benefit of the residents of the concerned areas.
These criteria were not taken into account in the agreement between the municipal authorities and the company ΑΕΙΦΟΡΙΚΗ ΔΩΔΕΚΑΝΗΣΟΥ S.A. which installed the 2 wind turbines on Kokkinos Kavos in 2013, resulting to zero benefit for the Municipality.

The municipal authority of L. Pentes, as the last act that sealed its term of office (30.08.2023), decided to re-lease the Kokkinos Kavos area to the company ΗΛΕΚΤΩΡ for another 20 years.
In general, we believe that a necessary condition for the installation of renewable energy sources in Patmos is the preparation of a spatial planning, environmental and carrying capacity study of the site, in which the local community, through the Municipality, should play a significant role.
It should not be acceptable to treat the Municipality as the fifth wheel on the wagon that simply rents municipal property cheaply, or even for free, without having a say in the planning and implementation of such significant projects.
An additional element, which we invoke and demand adherence and respect to in accordance with the current legislation, is the inclusion of Patmos in the exclusion zones for the development of wind turbines and photovoltaic systems (ZOE Patmos, Government Gazette 621, 2011), as well as the provisions of the law 2464/Β/03.12.2008 prohibiting the installation of Renewable Energy Sources:
- within a declared world cultural heritage monument
- within a zone of absolute nature protection and
- within a landscape declared of particular natural beauty
